It is very important that pet owners do not assume how the cremation will be handled. We must be given a written agreement for a private cremation or a third-party cremation, which outlines all-important facts regarding the cremation of our pets.

Most pet owners trust the person who is arranging or providing these services for them, but there have been instances of fraud even with human cremations. If dishonesty can happen in the human cremation industry where there are laws to protect families, you can be sure this is happening in the pet cremation industry where there are no laws to protect families or their pets.

There are two ways to verify a private pet cremation was performed correctly!
Family attended private pet cremation:
By attending a private pet cremation, the cremation procedure will be explained to you and any questions you have will be answered prior to the cremation beginning. The crematory door will be open so you can witness that the cremation chamber is clean before your pet's body is placed in the chamber. At no time will you see the actual cremation process unless you specifically ask to do so. Once the cremation process is completed, you will be asked if you want to witness the removal of the cremated remains from the cremation chamber. After removal of the cremated remains from the chamber, they will be processed and placed into an urn and returned to you.

OR

Certified private pet cremation:
Certified private pet cremation video certification is accomplished with the use of two high resolution video monitors that time codes and records onto a DVD the same things you would see if you attended your pet's private cremation. First you would view your pet's body on a stretcher directly in front of the cremation chamber. This will allow you to verify that it is your pet that is being cremated. The cremation door will then be opened to allow you to see that the cremation chamber is empty, your pet's body will be placed in the cremation chamber and the door will close. At this time, the second video monitor will be activated. This video monitor will record all activity happening in front of the crematory throughout all of the cremation process so anyone coming in or leaving your room will be monitored. When the cremation is completed, the number one monitor will be reactivated directly in front of crematory so when the cremation door is opened to retrieve the cremated remains, you'll be able to observe the removal of your pet's cremated remains. After removal of the cremated remains from the chamber, they will be processed and placed into an urn and returned to you and you should be given the copy of the video certification on the DVD.

If you do not demand one of the to verification procedures listed above for private pet cremation your pet could be cremated with many other pet's and you get a mixture of the cremated remains or maybe your pet might not even be cremated at all it could be landfill sold to a rendering company or any other horrendous form of disposal!!
